My Z500 won't read the dedicated graphics driver.

nI just got a new Z500, removed the OS it came with and installed Windows 8.1 on it.

First, I had an issue that the screen was too dim, so I fiddled with the driver and after removing and re-installing the Intel HD4000 graphics driver, I managed to get it back to normal.

However, I tried to install PES 2011 on it, and whenever I open its settings, it would give a warning that my system doesn't meet the minimum requirements. It would show it only reads the Intel HD4000.

So normally, I try to re-install the nVidia drivers, and instal the new ones and such, but in vain. I tried to check in the BIOS but I am only given two options: Switchable graphics or UMA, and not knowing what UMA is I chose the switchable graphics option.

Any ideas what to do ?

I'd be glad to offer more info as well if needed. It has a GT 740M btw.

Re: My Z500 won't read the dedicated graphics driver.

hi, Ouzi

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Switching the Graphics to UMA will only let you use the Intel HD4000 driver, it is recommended to use Switchable graphics.

Z500 runs with Nvidia Optimus which Auto Manages the Graphics switching,

In order to make this working you will have to make sure both drivers are Properly installed

Nvidia Driver for GT 740M

32 Bit

64 Bit

Intel Hd 4000 Beta driver

https://communities.intel.com/docs/DOC-21232

See if that works

Hope this helps,

Cheers!

Re: My Z500 won't read the dedicated graphics driver.

Thanks Solid-Curver,

I just installed the nvidia driver, but it still doesn't work. I'm downloading and installing the Intel driver, maybe it's the one causing problems.

I kept it at switchable, and will hope this would work.

Thank you.

Jus to add what has been suggested by Solid_Cruver, you should install the Intel HD4000 driver first before installing the Nvidia driver.

Re: My Z500 won't read the dedicated graphics driver.

If I already installed the NVidia driver, I can just remove it and then install Intel's as the first one, wouldn't make a problem right ?

Re: My Z500 won't read the dedicated graphics driver.

Okay, I finished downloading the Intel driver, and it says its not supported on my system so it doesn't install.

I don't know what to do, any ideas?

Thanks, forcing it to use the nVidia card worked, thanks a lot for your continued support and advice.
