Hello there, my Lenovo y50-70 laptop has an EXTREMELY dim/dark screen and changing brightness settings doesn’t change anything, a mate told me it could be something to do with backlighting. I’ve restarted and tried many solutions but none seem to work. Here’s what it looks like ( if you can see anything) if you look closely in the to on right habd corner of the screen some folders/files are barely visible, this is the problem I’m having
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Welcome to the Community Forums.
How was it if you use a pen light to illuminate the display?
Seeing the Windows folder on the dim background indicate a backlighting issue on the LCD.
Try connecting the laptop to an external monitor/ display and compare the screen. Here we assume that you have a good display since we are using a separate screen.
If you power on the machine using the novo button (item8 page 3) and still have a dim screen then you would likely need to replace the LCD panel.

You can review the manual if you have the tools and experience to do it yourself or have the nearest service center assist you.
I hope this helps answer your query.
