Re: NO NGFF in Lenovo Y510p

Mine has it soldered on, Croatia, September of 2013 sale. It seems completely random as I didn't order the SSD with it.

My Y510p is the same in Croatian purchased. I hope it also has a NGFF connector. Please, which is P/N (Part Number) of your device?

Thanks

Wow seems to be a lot of confusion on this. I just ordered aa base y410p and wanted to replace the hard drive with a ssd, not add to it. What kind of plug does the stock, non ssd hard drive use?

Re: NO NGFF in Lenovo Y510p

I purchased my Y510P from Buy/Rakuten in July with no SSD and confirmed last night that I don't have the NGFF slot. Hitting this with a fine tip soldering iron or needle seems a little crazy, as I don't have any experience with desoldering or removing excess solder with a wick, etc.

As I think this through, wouldn't using solder paste and a craft heat gun (or similar) be far less risky? My rationale is that you could inspect your solder paste job for errors before you introduce the heat source. If not perfect, just clean it up and reapply the solder paste. Is there a flaw in that thinking?

(Not necessarily saying I'll be the guy to try this, but am enjoying reading the thread!)

Is a 1.8" mSata SSD compatible for the slot?

Thanks for your answer in advance :).

Re: NO NGFF in Lenovo Y510p

Just to keep the confusion under control, if you bought a Y510p WITH the 24 GB SSD cache then your are 100% guarranteed to have the M.2. (NGFF) slot on your motherboard. If you bought a 8 GB cache version then you only got a SSHD (1 TB HDD with a built in 8 GB SSD cache) and it appears to be a 50:50 chance that your motherboard is missing the N.2. connector (from other forums it appears to be dependent on what version you got, the one with the 750m are missing the connecter while the ones with 755m sometimes have it). If you are missing the connector then your only option is to replace the 1 TB HDD with a regular 2.5 inch SSD.

Hope this helps.

I have the exact same problem - no NGFF slot, of course the distributor assured me that the slot is there, my mistake I didn't check it at once. Has somebody succeded with the problem? Ayone contacted Lenovo, why they sell stuff inconsistent with the description?
