Hi, can anyone kindly help and guide me the steps clearly in downgrading vista to xp for my Y400?
I tried installing xp straight using the cd, however it doesn't seems to work.
I have browsed through the forum thoroughly but I don't really understand how to go about doing it.
Thanks in advance to whoever is willing to help =)

Welcome to the forum, klementkrz.
Before you decide to downgrade, make sure that you have all the drivers for XP otherwise you'll run into problems of finding the right drivers. Once you got all the XP drivers, back up all your data to CDs or external hard drive.
When you insert the XP CD, your internal harddisk will not be recognized by XP. You need to go to your BIOS first and set the harddisk Serial ATA(SATA)>Set AHCI to Compatability. Save and exit.
When you insert again the XP CD, it will now install succesfully.
You can also google the step by step procedure if you need to get more information.
Hope this helps.

I went into PhoenixBIOS setup utility but I can't find anywhere in the menu settings that allows me to set the hdd SATA > changing AHCI to compatibility.
Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

When you are in the Bios setup screen, go to advanced menu, on the left column what are the options listed?
Let me know the list and you would probably see the hard disk option (it could be IDE configuration).
