I was preparing to install Windows 8.1 and read on the Lenovo site that I should get the most up to date bios.
On this site I clicked to download and install the BIOS. After the system restarted, I was presented with this message immediately.

Welcome to the Forums.
Your issue might be similar to this thread:
It's possible that this BIOS update corrupted the EFI firmware settings and changing UEFI to Disabled forces legacy settings. Taking a look at this boot chart, the system undergoes a series of security checks before Windows loads up. In legacy mode, the system doesn't undergo to these security checks on pre-boot / pre startup and directly boots the Operating System.
I recommend you contact lenovo and reportt the issue as a BIOS reflash might be necessary to correct the issue.

It sounds like I lhave to do a BIOS reflash. Currently I am out of the United States for work until the beginning of December. So I will have to wait until then to call. But thank you.
As a side question. Any suggestions for getting Dolby Home Theater V4 to work with Windows 8.1? Currently it fails to load due to the update.

AFAIK, the Dolby Home Theater is included when you install the Sound Driver.
If you have a Conexant Sound device, try to uninstall the current one (including the Dolby) and install the one below:
