P580 BIOS update. Cant start up computer.

I was preparing to install Windows 8.1 and read on the Lenovo site that I should get the most up to date bios.

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT073634

On this site I clicked to download and install the BIOS. After the system restarted, I was presented with this message immediately.

EFI Network 0 for IPv6 (mac address) boot failed
Checking media (Fail)
EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (mac address) boot failed
Then a blue box appears underneath saying:
Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed
Insert Recovery Media and hit any key
The Select Boot Manager to choose a new Boot
Device or to Boot Recovery Media

The only solution to get past this was to press F2 and boot into legacy mode. Is there anyway I can fix this? I have no idea what llegacy mode is or if it is good or bad. Any help is apprciated. Thank you!

Re: P580 BIOS update. Cant start up computer.

hi DivineSire,

Welcome to the Forums.

Your issue might be similar to this thread:

It's possible that this BIOS update corrupted the EFI firmware settings and changing UEFI to Disabled forces legacy settings. Taking a look at  this boot chart, the system undergoes a series of security checks before Windows loads up. In legacy mode, the system doesn't undergo to these security checks on pre-boot / pre startup and directly boots the Operating System.

I recommend you contact lenovo and reportt the issue as a BIOS reflash might be necessary to correct the issue.

Here's the contact info in the US:

Telephone number:  1-877-453-6686

Hours of operation:  24 hours a day  / 7 days a week

Regards

Re: P580 BIOS update. Cant start up computer.

It sounds like I lhave to do a BIOS reflash. Currently I am out of the United States for work until the beginning of December. So I will have to wait until then to call. But thank you.

As a side question. Any suggestions for getting Dolby Home Theater V4 to work with Windows 8.1? Currently it fails to load due to the update.

Re: P580 BIOS update. Cant start up computer.

hi DivineSire,

AFAIK, the Dolby Home Theater is included when you install the Sound Driver.

If you have a Conexant Sound device, try to uninstall the current one (including the Dolby) and install the one below:

Conexant Audio Driver
audio130w81.exe
185 MB

Regards
