There are actually 2 BIOS's in the N580 as set up for Win8. The regular BIOS & the UEFI BIOS. I was working on installing a different HDD & somehow stumbled into the UEFI BIOS for a while. I'm not sure how I got there & I haven't been able to get back since. I am still getting used to what that means. I suspect many of those of post about N580 BIOS are as in the dark as I am.

I wasn't installing or formatting a hard drive. Just doing a bios update. Already been running windows 8 since launch day. So my problem at least is something to do with the bios itself

Hi! I've just encountered exactly the same problem as you too. I accidentally stumpled upon a solution while experimenting the boot setting in my Lenono G480. From my experience, to boot into Win 8 again, you need to change the setting in the boot menu to "Legacy Support". Here is the step:
2. Press F2
3. Go to "Boot"
4. In Boot mode, select "Legacy Support"
It somehow fixed. But i don't whether this is good for Win 8 x64 as "Legacy Support" is not recommended for Win 8 x64.

I followed your advice and it worked! Many thanks. However, do you know if I now have to replace the old bios version? Or is it OK now en my lap will start normally again? Greetings, Johan Smit from the Netherlands
