Periodic spikes in GPU temp. and usage

Configuration:
Laptop: Lenovo IdeaPad Y500
CPU: Intel Core i7-3630QM @ 2.4GHz
GPU: Two GeForce GT 650M running in SLI mode
Driver version: 331.82
RAM: 8GB
Screen: 1920 x 1080, 59 Hz
System: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

Problem:
I noticed that while idle, my laptop fans would start running fast and noisy for about a minute and then return to normal. I checked with MSI Afterburner and found that there are periodic spikes in GPU temperature and usage with corresponding spikes in the core clock, memory clock, and memory usage. This is very weird since my laptop is idle and not running any programs. I checked for any unusual background processes and found nothing.

Re: Periodic spikes in GPU temp. and usage

hi iliyat,

Consider using app monitoring softwares like Process Hacker to see process that's eating up system resources, debug software and detect malware in the system. This should also show hidden processes that the normal task manager can't show.

Regards
