Plugging power cord turns laptop off (Y510P)

Hello,

I have a Y510P notebook and I am having some problems with it.

Once I was playing on this laptop and it suddenly it turned off. The power cord would make a weird noise and it wouldn't turn on. After a while it started to work normally. It was probably a high voltage spike in my house, since we already lost a cellphone.

After that I notice that the laptop would turn off, as soon as I plugged the power cord.

I ordered a new power cord and battery, but this issue is still happening.

Anyone has an idea?

Thank you!

Re: Plugging power cord turns laptop off (Y510P)

Hi Tiagoramosleite,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can initially start isolating the issue using the power checkout guideline (page 21)

Try to notice anything on the DC port like bent pin , unusual appearance / marks or smell of burnt .

Would any led status light (page30) still be lit when plugged in.

It would be best to have it further checked for further isolation for dc in port issue against failure on the systemboard itself with nearest service center or call in technical support for further recommendation.

Update us how it works best for you.

Regards

Re: Plugging power cord turns laptop off (Y510P)

The battery and the DC adapter are brand new. It is still happening (less constantly though).

The LED looks normal.

As I said, sometimes when I plug in the DC adapter with the laptop on, it simply turns off. After crashing I can turn the laptop on normally. The DC port pin looks fine.

I thing the problem might be the power jack, or something worse.

Thank you,

Tiago

Hi Tiago ,

I think it would be best if you can have the dc in port , power board and systemboard checked further as you may also suspected .
