Program to cache Y580 ssd drive

Currently I have my OS installed on my 32gb SSD-drive on the lenovo y580. Recently I found out that I shouldn't have installed it there, but to the HDD drive and use the SSD for caching. What program should I use for caching since Y580 doesn't support RAID. And when having my OS on the SSD., should I just re-install it on the HDD drive. But I have personal data as pictures, movies, music and documents on the HDD. If I install windows there will I lose them. They are important for me!

Re: Program to cache Y580 ssd drive

hi Malinche97

Thanks for Posting,

You can shrink your Current partition on your HDD to make another Partition for Installing Windows back.

This way you can install Another Windows on Your HDD Without deleting your files.

Then about the cache program you might want to check this article.

Re: Program to cache Y580 ssd drive

Hi, thank you for the responce about the HDD. I understand that Smiley Happy

But, about the thread. Yes, I have read it, but I guess I dont understand some stuff, so please help !

when I run eccmd.exe - info it shows me this:

"'eccmd.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

(This means that ExpressCache is not installed. Refer to the Solution section of this document.)

What then ?

2. When I go to diskmgmt.msc I'm having a hard time understanding since it's a different language and I dont know what to do. (I'll give you a photo, maybe you could help me out)
When I install expresscahce (I havent yet, because i want to know what it does) what will it do and how would this be helpfull for my system?

Thank you in advance.

Re: Program to cache Y580 ssd drive

hi

Here is the provided solution on the article

You will have to clear out the SSD partitions, So you will need to have your OS Installed on the HDD first.

To resolve the issue, first delete the primary partition on the mSATA SSD and then install the ExpressCache software. The ExpressCache installer will automatically create the necessary caching partition on the mSATA SSD.

  1. Open the Start Menu, type DiskMgmt.msc, and press Enter to start Disk Management.
  2. At the bottom of the Disk Management window, identify the mSATA SSD device. The 16GB mSATA SSD is 14.91GB. The 32GB mSATA SSD is 29.82GB.
  3. The mSATA SSD may contain a "Data2" partition with a drive letter such as D: or E:. If so, check for any saved files on the device. If any files exist, move them to the C:\ drive.
  4. Delete the Primary Partition on the mSATA SSD by right clicking on it and choose "Delete Volume..." from the menu that appears. Click "Yes" to confirm the action.
  5. There should now be at least 29GB of unallocated space on the mSATA SSD.
  6. Download ExpressCache from the following link that corresponds to the Windows 7 installation (32bit or 64bit):
  1. Install ExpressCache by double clicking on the setup file downloaded in Step 6 and follow the on-screen instructions. Reboot as prompted.

Best Regards,
