Re: Z 580 memory upgrade 16 gb problem

I had an occasional problem like that with 16gb, fine with 8gb or less, even though all memory test pass with no problems, there must be some type of compatibility problem with the Z580, most likely due to the bios as motherboard and cpu support 8gb per slot.

make sure you have the latest bios update.

Re: Z 580 memory upgrade 16 gb problem

But does that mean it is simply not possible for a z580 to run 16 gb? Would a bios upgrade do any good?

Re: Z 580 memory upgrade 16 gb problem

The bios is most likely the entire reason you are having problems, the the Z580 is not certified, meaning lenovo has not tested it with 16gb

As i said my Z580 runs OK, not perfect with 16GB the occasional boot problem, no bsod or any problem in windows, and i have run the lenovo memory test with 16gb and it passed with zero errors.

Have you tried swapping the 8gb so-dimms around, you might have a bad contact.

Re: Z 580 memory upgrade 16 gb problem

So perhaps I could mail them asking for a bios fix.

Re: Z 580 memory upgrade 16 gb problem

hey guys,

the slots may support 8gb but maximum capacity is not 16gb (8gbx2)
when you install 8+4, it should probably work without any issue.

can you please try to install 8+4gb?

Hey there,   I returned the memory, spec sheets of the z5...

Hey there,

I returned the memory, spec sheets of the z580 say 8 gb is the max capacity. Haven't tried 8+4 but couldnt that cause instability problems due to different size+brand?

Re: Ram memory for Z580

I currently have 8gb and I would like to upgrade, has anyone figured out if the Z580 can handle 2x8 = 16 GB memory?

Thanks.
