Random Unwanted Keyboard Shortcuts

Model: Ideapad y560

Name: 0646

Hi!

Some keys on the keyboard trigger unwanted operations, most notably the "m" key which opens a Lenovo box "Custom Program Settings" (used to run programs, search, or open a web page), the "n" key opens a little box that can minimize, restore, and close a web browser, and the "h" key which mutes or unmutes volume.

Usually, the letter still appears, but the cursor will move, or windows will resize, or sometimes random characters appear.

-Reinstalled Energy Managment Drivers

-Ran full computer scan using Microsoft security essentials

-Numlock is off

You can enable custom keys by clicking the Custom button on the Control Panel or selecting Start -> All Programs -> Lenovo -> Energy Management -> Custom Program Settings.

Tried going to this but the file doesn't exist.

Any ideas?

Re: Random Unwanted Keyboard Shortcuts

Had you tied by changing the keyboard layout on the Control Panel of Windows 7.

It's just an idea... I have the Y560 and I don't have that issue.

Wich BIOS version are you using? Had you change the position of the Fn and Ctrl?

Re: Random Unwanted Keyboard Shortcuts

Sorry, but my recomendation: change the notebook. Return it to the store and get a new one.

Also, maybe you should consider to get another model.

Just my opinion.

Re: Random Unwanted Keyboard Shortcuts

I am having the same problem so it is obvious i did not receive a lemon, and this is not an isolated incident, i checked all the keyboard settings and nothing effects the key shortcuts, i called the Lenovo support line and they told me to do a system restore.....i have done that 4 times but nothing. i even let the Lenovo support person have control over my computer (through sharemyPC) and she couldn't find a solution. i have done the one touch recovery and once again nothing. i have uninstalled the keyboard software and reinstalled  and still nothing. and lastly i searched for the custom programs settings software to try and uninstall it but the software can't be found.
if anyone has a solution or suggestion please post.
(this this started to occur 4 days after first startup)
Thanks

Re: Random Unwanted Keyboard Shortcuts

I had some weird issues on a Y450 keyboard with random key triggers.

Try this: if you have a spare keyboard, plug it into the notebook, and see if the issue still occurs. If it doesn't, then it's probably a defective keyboard. Lenovo swapped out the keyboard in the Y450 in 7 business days, under warranty for me.
