Replace old 1TB HDD to SSD IdeaPad Y500

Hi
I have Y500 with 1TB HDD and 256GB mSATA disk with Windows 10 on it.
How can I replace old SATA HDD to SSD and leave my operating system on mSATA disk?

Re: Replace old 1TB HDD to SSD IdeaPad Y500

Hi SergiyK,

Welcome to the Community Forums,

If you are saying that your Windows is install via 256 mSATA then we would expect that removing the 1TB harddrisk would still allow you to boot to Windows without any issue.

Simply replacing the 1 TB with SSD would be the same steps as described in the hardware manual (page 39).

On a different scenario , this and this discussion would help.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Re: Replace old 1TB HDD to SSD IdeaPad Y500

Thank you for your answer.

I copied those partitions to my mSATA drive except the last one called PBR_DRV, disconnect my HHD and system started correctly but I couldn't shut down my comp. It just open my wellcome screen but not switched off.
So I tried to change my partirions and copy that PBR_DRV to the end of my disk. Paragon did it with errors and now I can't start my system even with the old HDD.
How can I correctly reinstall mt system from scratch to mSATA if my comp doesn't work at all? Smiley Happy
PS Unfortunately I can't restore from back up my system ty dynamic partition. So I should do something else

Re: Replace old 1TB HDD to SSD IdeaPad Y500

Hi SergiyK,

Greetings.

What Windows version do you have?

Have you backed up your files before the changes?

If Windows is originally installed on the 1 TB then it should be worth creating a recovery media first.

Repartitioning may cause failure of boot and likewise endanger functionality of the factory image reset.

Try to find ways to undo the changes and maybe check for options like factory reset via One Key Recovery.

Note that data may be deleted so regular back ups are recommended.

Regards

Windows 10
I've made a lot of mistakes so One Key Recover does not work (I've changed HDD structure).
Is it possible to start system from scratch? Can I add a new disk and then format it to Lenovo structure?
I have disk backups and I'll try to repair it now

Hi SergiyK

Yes, you can use the same Windows 10 installer to repair the current image and even to clean install Windows on the SSD m.2.

Update us how things go.

Re: Replace old 1TB HDD to SSD IdeaPad Y500

Installer tells that the disk has GPT structure and it can't install Windows to that partition. The same problem with both disks, original 1TB HDD and mSATA
UPD Later I convert my mSATA disk to MBR and now I can install Win. But I lost all my partitions. What should I do next after installation?
Shoul I copy all partitions from original HDD to mSATA? Can it work without those partitions?

Re: Replace old 1TB HDD to SSD IdeaPad Y500

Hi SergiyK,

Greetings.

If the created installer is also MBR created then MBR format of the drive is expected to work.

You can try booting to it and install needed drivers.

More about MBR and GPT partition style here and here.

You can take time to review the links if you needed GPT.

Update us how it goes for you.

Re: Replace old 1TB HDD to SSD IdeaPad Y500

Hi, I replaced the 120GB Intel SSD with the 1TB Samsung 860 Evo SSD. IOS / UEFI tells me that it has not been found, the interesting thing is that it finds an Intel SSD.
