SMART event message from Intel Matrix Storage Console

This is rather strange.

I installed Windows 7 Home Premium x64 bit on my Y530 originally having Vista Home Premium x64 bit.

Installation was breeze and it found all the required drivers automatically and running smoothly.

But suddenly I am getting an event notifaction from Intel Matrix Storage Console that my HDD will fail soon and get it repaired / replaced soon. So, I downloaded Western Digitals diagnostic tool and it reported "Re-Allocated Sector Count" with a value of 30.

Windows 7 is popping up a window to take backup and advising me to shutdown the computer.

Someone please advice me what needs to be done. My warranty is still active, should I just ask for a replacement of HDD or send in the laptop for service?

I bought this laptop in the US, but I will be in India for about 6 months before returning to the US.

Thanks.

Re: SMART event message from Intel Matrix Storage Console

update matrix storage may fix your issue for windows 7 64 bit:

http://downloadmirror.intel.com/17882/eng/IATA89ENU.exe

if link doesn't work try this :

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/download.aspx?url=/17882/eng/IATA89ENU.exe&DwnldId=17882&lang=eng

if you have international warranty, no need to wait get back to US.

check if you have from here.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=LOOK-IWS#sw

but i think when you update drivers, it'll work fine.

we can try other solutions, if these don't fix your issue, then you can ask lenovo support.

Re: SMART event message from Intel Matrix Storage Console

Hi sgmitra,

I would highly recommend that you take the SMART errors seriously, and request a replacement hard drive. I cannot say how Lenovo service will handle this, but might expect that they'll simply ship you a replacement without requiring you to return your entire laptop.

Please let us know how it works out.

Best regards,

Frank

Re: SMART event message from Intel Matrix Storage Console

Thanks. I am not sure how a software fix would resovlve a hardware issue. But I went ahead and updated the driver but I still receive the SMART event. I will call the India help center again, or else I have to call the US support.

Re: SMART event message from Intel Matrix Storage Console

my mistake, firstly i tho it was a software issue due to upgrading.

ask lenovo to change your hdd with new one. ( bad sectors on the disk )

Re: SMART event message from Intel Matrix Storage Console

Finally after escalation, the matter was taken with interest and resolved.

Defective HDD was replaced. It took very little time for them to analyze and get the parts ordered.

Even the local authorized service center was prompt in their communiction and resolved the matter to my best interest.

Great!
