Screen goes blank after Lenovo splash screen on y580

I was trying to remedy the "plugged in but not charging" problem, clicked on something in the power section in a screen that came up after clicking on the power icon, and the screen went blank. I tried re-starting. I removed the battery and AC and held the power button for 30s. No change. When I power up, everything seems normal until the Lenovo splash screen comes up, the spinny dots start going, then the screen goes blank and stays blank. If I pull the AC, the screen  blinks on for 0.1 second before the machine dies.

Re: Screen goes blank after Lenovo splash screen on y580

Hi jlobell ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Try to connect it to any external monitor. Would you have an image on the external?

To isolate if the issue is with Windows and drivers , try booting using a rescue image on a USB .

Would you be able to show some display on the LCD screen?

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Re: Screen goes blank after Lenovo splash screen on y580

Hi there,

Can you elaborate issue more like what windows are you using, etc... Though the chances are as follows,

1.Did you clicked any options like guage reset or something else...

2.Did you clicked hibernate...

There is also more chances for the corruption of hibernation file..

Regards

Kamal

Re: Screen goes blank after Lenovo splash screen on y580

I'm using Windows 10.

I didn't click "hybernate". I didn't even know that that was an option. Also, I would think that a reset would undo that if I had, no?

The last thing I clicked was some power related option that appeard in "hidden icons". It may have been "gauge reset", but that doesn't ring any strong bells.

No image on external display when I plug my TV into the HDMI output.

I haven't tried the rescue CD. I'll see if I can burn one on my other machine and try it.

Re: Screen goes blank after Lenovo splash screen on y580

Hi jlobell ,

The way it actually goes is more on the start up boot of Windows as the Lenovo splash screen indicates that on the machine level it is working ok. The circling dots (like a please wait while loading sign) is a Windows interaction screen to inform that it is tyring to load up a Windows user interface screen .

Similar to this is when it tries to recover previous data the last time it went off or hibernate or when there is a previous update that it tries to update on the back ground.

If there is no data to back up and you would simply decide doing a factory reset , you need to turn off the laptop and use the Novo button for the system recovery menu offering One Key Recovery from initial back up.

Update us what works best for you.

Regards

Re: Screen goes blank after Lenovo splash screen on y580

Before I do anything radical, is there no way to reset the power management options to the factory default?

If I'm really stuck, I will probabaly take out the disk, transfer all the files of interest, and reinstall the operating system. The machine was running like crap anyway.

Re: Screen goes blank after Lenovo splash screen on y580

Hi jlobell ,

The power management is inside windows . The One Key Recovery using the Novo Button will do it .

You have a good action plan here . Backup as you can as this will also check the readability of the harddrive.

Update us how you progress from here.

What does the one-key recovery do?

WIll it result in loss of data?

Thanks.

Re: Screen goes blank after Lenovo splash screen on y580

Hi jlobell ,

The One Key Recovery is a full factory reset and would delete everything including your data .

The more reason that you need to back up. As OKR will repartion and reimage Windows anew replacing corrupt drivers and system files as it would also delete potential residing malwares , viruses or floating scripts within windows.

Regards
