Touchpad does not respond

2013-10-26, 2:11 AM

For some reason my touchpad on my y510p stopped working. If I dont use a usb mouse then I dont get a cursor at and nothing happens when use the touchpad.

I checked the drivers and it seems that its reading the device as other/unkown. Can't figure out why though.

Here are the hardware id's

ACPI\VEN_FFF&DEV_FFFF

ACPI\FFFFFFF

*FFFFFFF

I also tried to reinstall the drivers for the touchpad but it said that the device was missing and it exits the installation.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Download the drivers from the support website and reinstall. Also please check if your touchpad is disabled.

I am nothing with the device IDs you gave me. Those are dummy values because all the characters are F's

I did that already. Towards the end of the post I said that I tried to reinstll the drivers. The symantic one throws an error saying that their is no semantic device and the elan one attempts to start but it says that the device is missing.

Its really wierd. Its not like I other peoples problems where I canjust press fn+F6

I know the mouse doesnt work because on the windows 8 splash page before you login, when i click nothing happens.

I checked out mouse properties and found there was an Elan tab.

Checked to see if it was recognizing any of the devices and it doesnt.

Anyone have any ideas?

Its odd, when I unplug my usb mouse, the cursor just disappears and when I plug it back in, it comes back.

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem with same Hardware ID you encountered.

My posted message: "Y510p Touchpad Not Working" over an hour ago.

Regards.

Ps. Did you managed to sort this out? I noticed this message was posted last year.

Re: Touchpad does not respond

Okay, I know this thread is old but I just had the same problem and google brought me here so I thought to share my findings for any one come here in future.

I was having a problem with one of my speakers and I thought to disassemble the laptop to take a look. I'm not experienced and I made mistakes while operating resulting in touchpad stopped functioning (like it is not there) accompanied by an unknown device in Device Manager with the same hardware id as in the OP:

ACPI\VEN_FFF&DEV_FFFF
ACPI\FFFFFFF
*FFFFFFF

I quickly figured out that I must have done something with the touchpad while disassembling/reassembling. And I was correct. I found that I unintentionally unplugged the wiring between the touchpad and the motherboard. Reconnecting this fixed the problem.

  1. Unscrew all the screws to remove the back cover.
  2. Take a look, there are more screws that have labels beside them with a draw of keyboard, unscrew those. This will allow you to remove the keyboard from top.
  3. Now flip the laptop, and carefully with a card or something thin but hard enough, remove the keyboard and just move it up a little it. Don’t be hard on it as you may accidently unplug more wires and double the trouble!
  4. Now just re-wire the touchpad and revert the steps.
