When I go to the PC Settings. Under the heading "update and recovery" which lists "windows update" I then click onto the "check now". The problem I'm having is that it continues checking for updates and never stops. What might be the problem for it not stopping?

We've tried to look this up online and we found this error in the same discussion in Microsoft forums: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/i-keep-getting-the-error-code-0x... . You could probably first try the simplest step from that thread, that is by disabling the Microsoft Defender. Open Windows Defender Security Center, go to Virus & Threat Protection, then Virus & Threat Protection Settings, and then turn off Real Time Protection.
