trying to install vista by one key recover?
if you made any changes on volumes, okr stops working and you'll get error.
try to make a clean install for vista if you have windows dvd, not recovery disks.
plus if you have still windows 7 on your system, it is impossible to install vista before un-install windows 7. ( for dual boot )

i think the problem may be that i have removed the system partition and secondly having flashed the orignial bios. i am using y450 lenovo laptop and tell if i can find the system repair for the system partiton and if i can get the original bios flashed back.

if you are trying to install from recovery partititon, you can not install it because you have deleted recovery partition.
if you have recovery backup dvds, try to install with them, if both doesn't work, i suggest to contact lenovo support due to resetting your hard disk for default . ( or installing recovery volume )
if you have microsoft windows installation dvd, a clean install fix your boot.
still try to get your computer start by pressing one key recover button, or press f8 and select boot fix.
