I need to upgrade the SSD for laptop Lenovo Z51-70. Can I upgrade the SSD while using the HDD?

Looking forward to your feedback.

Re: Upgrade SSD for Lenovo Z51-70

Hi there, Kbuor                       -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

As per the datasheet, the maximum SSD storage upgrade can be 128 GB / 256 GB (SSD) SATA III.

However, MTM (Machine type model number) is required to confirm if mSATA port situated on MBD... Else get SSD with SATA connector.

Update us how it goes.

Re: Upgrade SSD for Lenovo Z51-70

Hi Shashi,

Thanks for you reply,

I have replaced the HDD is used by SSD. Then I mounted HDD via SATA Optical Bay for CD/DVD drive slot. But the machine only recognized SSD and not recognize HDD

That bay was likely never intended to be used for regular drives. If you have the latest bios for the machine then there is no work around that I can think of.

Re: Upgrade SSD for Lenovo Z51-70

I would suggest you visit the nearest Lenovo service centres for assistance. Schedule a Call-back for faster support. Also, try update bios.

Second find in your caddy small jumper and change it position.

Update us how it goes.

Re: Upgrade SSD for Lenovo Z51-70

I have in my z51 a corsair mx300 525gb SSD it is in the main sata bay. In my odd adaptor the largest I have been able to get to work is the 1tb sshd it came with. But both my 250gb SSD and 525 SSD showed up there too.

Re: Upgrade SSD for Lenovo Z51-70

How could you do that? Is there a bridge to modify? I have tried it this way: Crucial SSD 520Gb as main HD and the original HD in the DVD bay, but it does not see it.

Re: Upgrade SSD for Lenovo Z51-70

Hi Lunas,
Even I have BIOS 2.02 , and i tried installing my Samsung 860 evo 250 gb using a caddy. But it doesnt show in my laptop, even in Disk management.

Do you have any possible insight?

Thank you!
