Scroll to page 69 to see a list of compatible and certified CPUs you can use on your Z500!

The i5-3210M is compatible.

Good luck! Mark the thread as solved if this has helped you!

Maybe you should go straight to i7 3632QM? that's the best 35W Ivy Bridge CPU.

Lenovo z500 replacement CPU

2013-12-04, 9:40 AM

Hi,

I have a z500 with intel core i3 2348M (socket 988 rPGA, TDP 35W) CPU, and now I think replacement this CPU on intel core i7 3632QM rPGA (socket 988 rPGA, TDP 35W).

Is there such a possibility? What do I need to do this? how do I install it?

Re: Upgrade the CPU of a Lenovo Z500 (i3 to i5)

Hello, I have a few questions for you.

I currently own a Lenovo IdeaPad Z500 with an Intel Core i5-3230M processor.

First question: Is my processor soldered to the motherboard or is it replaceable?

Second question: If it is replaceable, I was planning an upgrade to i7-3632QM. Is such and upgrade possible?

Third question: Do these two processors share the same socket? Or do I have to look out for something while searching for i7-3632QM?

Thanks in advance.

Use cpuid utility to see if your CPU uses socket or is it soldered. From what I see it most probably is using socket G2 (rPGA 988B). If it's soldered in package it will say BGAxxxx (most probably BGA1023).

You can use any CPU that fits Socket G2 up to the same TDP as your current CPU.

In my opinion unless you get a real bargain on a faster CPU it's not worth upgrading.

Thank you for your quick reply.

It says here it uses the 988B rPGA socket. So there shouldn't be any problems.

My lenovo z500 is currently using m2020 dual pentium.

CPU-Z says that my socket type is 988B rPGA, so it appears it is not soldered and i can upgrade it to i5/i7, correct?
