Upgrading RAM on Ideapad Y510p

2019-07-13, 17:31 PM

Hi, I want to upgrade RAM of my laptop from 8gb(4gb x 2) to 16gb(8gb x 2).  My question is, is it okay if I buy a single RAM with same configuration twice or do I have to look for a set of 2 RAM sticks?

I am currently looking at this to buy 2 of:

Basically, you need two modules which share the same standard (in your case it must be DDR3L), clock speeds and timings. It's advised to get the same two modules, but it could be from two different vendors, as long as they have the same specification. Just try to avoid Kingston, as they are know to make problems.

If you are buying a pair of the same Crucial 8GB DDR3L-1600 SODIMMs they will work perfectly.

Crucial (Micron) is one of the brands that Lenovo uses often, is good quality, and the part number CT102464BF160B is exactly what Crucial recommends for your model on their own website

Cheers,

Thanks for the heads-up, Saperkus. Will stay away from Kingston.
