Upgrading Y510 hard drive help.

2009-04-22, 22:43 PM

Today I bought a new hard drive for my Y510, but when I replaced the hard drive and booted up my computer it gave me these messages. PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, check cable and PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM. I know this means that the hard drive is at fault. So my question is did I buy a faulty hard drive or is the harddrive not compatiable with my laptop?

Hard drive spec: ( the one i bought)

Seagate

-SATA

-500GB

-8MB Cache

-5400RPM

Did you install Windows Vista onto the hard drive? It will not boot if no operating system is present.

You can clone your old hard drive onto your new one and keep the original Windows installation. To do this, you can use either Acronis True Image or Easeus Disk Copy. I highly recommend the latter.

No, I couldn't I would put in the Vista driver, but it wouldn't load the disk and just kept giving me the same message. Ok, so I downloaded Easeus Disk Copy and that didn't work either. Do you have any other suggestions?

You should:

1) Clone drive to new one

2) Change boot device priority so you will finally stop trying to boot from LAN card of Broadcom...
