Upgrading Z580 to SSD

I have an old (7 years) Z580 that is getting slow and runs Windows 7. I''d prefer to upgrade components and OS rather than buy new. Is it worth replacing the HDD with an SSD? I already have 8GB RAM, which I think is the maximum allowed.

Re: Upgrading Z580 to SSD

Hi JohnUttley!

Welcome to the Lenovo forum discussion.

We don't see any problem upgrading the HDD to SSD of the laptop. As long as you will use the same size and height of the current HDD. The Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 use a 2.5" 7.0 mm Height SATA hard disk drive. Meaning, you need to look for an SSD that use a 2.5" 7.0 mm Height SATA. You can check the complete specs on the hardware maintenance manual https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_z380_z480_z485_z580_z585_hmm_1st_edition_fe... (page 27). In addition, you can learn how to replace the HDD from the hardware maintenance manual https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_z380_z480_z485_z580_z585_hmm_1st_edition_fe... (check page 37).

Regards,
