Wifi showing limited connectivity

2017-07-09, 11:19 AM

Hello

I have a Lenovo z50-70 laptop running windows 8.1 single language with Realtek wifi.

Now I can't connect to any wifi networks. It says either can't connect to this network or limited connectivity(even in my home wifi). I tried updating the driver as mentioned in some of the fixes. But doesn't work. Is anyone having this issue and please provide a solution.

PS: the wifi network is okay for all the other devices......

Hi, HJ10          -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Just to verify, do you also get the "Limited Access" when you connect the machine thru Ethernet?

If yes, can you try the following?

  1. Open an elevated command prompt, type ipconfig /all and observe the TCP/IP IPV4 address

Ethernet Adapter Wireless Network Connection:

DHCP Enabled ..............   xxx (value should be Yes  No)

DHCP Server  ..................  xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

TCP/IP IPV4 Address .....  xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (preferred)

Subnet Mask ....................  xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Default Gateway ..............  xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

If you get a 169.254.xxx.xxx IP address, you're most likely getting a DHCP failover (APIPA).  check this thread and try the script made by cbautis2 to refresh the winsock and TCP/IP configurations of your PC or you can manually type the following on the command prompt and reboot the machine:

ipconfig /flushdns

netsh winsock reset

netsh int ip reset

  1. If you still get issues, try to refresh the network adapter by doing the following:
  2. Press the Windows logo key‌ +R> type devmgmt.msc
  3. Navigate to Network Adapters and uninstall the Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapter (don't delete the driver)
  4. Right click on Network Adapters and choose "Scan for Hardware Changes" to refresh the Wi-Fi /  Ethernet adapter

  1. Boot the machine in Safe Mode with Networking(this is to isolate any third party security software that might be interferring with the Internet connection). If this works, perform a clean bootor try to disable / uninstall any running security software in Windows (normal mode) and observe.

Also, you mentioned that you used the software CD, is it labeled "Recovery Disc" or "Drivers and Applications"?

If it's a Drivers and Applications disc then this usually contains the preloaded softwares / drivers that came with the unit (the drivers can also be downloaded from the lenovo website).

Update us how it goes.

I'm very sorry that none if the solutions worked
I don't know whether it shows limited connectivity with Ethernet as I don't use that.
Is there some other solution?

Hi, this is a long-shot but have you tried changing the channel width?  I've seen "connected but no internet" on one of my laptops with a Realtek card that was fixed by changing the channel width.

Device Manager -> Network Adapters -> <wifi adapter> -> advanced tab -> <channel width options>

The below isn't a Realtek adapter.  I don't have one handy.  The wifi adapter name will be different, and the channel width options - if they are available - may be called something different.

If there are multiple options, try them all.  They may not make a difference, but it's worth a try...

Limited implies you are connected to your router but not to the internet. Your ISP is not responding to the router connection. Sometimes powering off the router and on again will work. But it depends. Its a entirely separate issue.
