Wifi upgrade y510p

Hey,

I know there are already a few topics with the same subject, however none have the exact same situation as mine as most are US based. I too have a powerful Lenovo Y510P SLI with a Intel Centrino N2230 wifi card. I am buying a new router for my student room and since I want to buy things that can last for a few years, opted for a wifi AC router (probably an Asus one). But, this laptop won't support it... I looked in the technical maintaince manual to find which wifi cards are supported for the Y510P, there is one Wifi AC card for the Y410P, but according to various posts will also work in the Y510P as they share the same BIOS whitelist. I don't want to flash the BIOS with a custom modded one which removes the whitelist. (I flashed a desktop Asus motherboard to run OSX, went great, runs well, but I can't experiment with this laptop, need it for university.). So I Googled and Ebayed the partnumer and this one came up: Ebay Link, which says "Only for Lenovo/IBM laptops such as Y510P" should be fine right? Only thing is it is 40 USD, Dutch customs will charge 21% on top of it so that makes 48 USD, and the Dutch postal office will charge anywhere between 15-20 USD for paperwork for importing goods. So that makes an total of 68 USD... so that almost doubles the cost of the upgrade...

I used the FRU number for this card: WLAN, WiFi AC+BT4.0, Ltn BCM4352+20702 2x2AC+BT4.0 HMC which is 20200381, and put in the search engine in the "part number" field of the Lenovo Service Shop which is EU based, so I don't have to import anything.

And the above image is the result, it's in Dutch but in English it says: Network, MSN 35015768, WLAN Module. Remaining stock, 24 months warranty. The price, excluding shipping cost and put inside shopping basket. What do you guys think is this the same module? MSN 3501768 is suspicious... it is not the same as the FRU number... try to order it? Or is this just a wrong part... Thanks for your help!

EDIT:

Forget to mention that the Lenovo Service Shop sells original Lenovo parts, it's powered by Medion, whose parent company is ... Lenovo, so the shop is ok.

Re: Wifi upgrade y510p

Thanks, it's the 4th one of that list. I'm looking for that part and wondering if the search result from the Lenovo Service Shop is het same part. I can always reach out to the webshop, and see if they know the answer...

Re: Wifi upgrade y510p

Sorry not sure about that part. But check this link -

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/802-11ac-Can-the-Wifi-card-be-swapped-out-Y510/...

Here is the post I am referring to -

"Hi,

The Lenovo fru 20200381 BCM 4352 802.11ac Broadcom card listed in the maintenance manual is available (not from Lenovo) and works fine.  I have used it on a y510p without having to alter the BIOS.  Definitely works well for me and has an FCC certification label on the card.  It works on both y410p and y510p.  You can try this link:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-Broadcom-BCM94352HMB-802-11ac-Dual-Band-2x2-AC-Bluetooth-4-0-867Mbps-Car...

The drivers on the Lenovo support site work fine.  The absolute newest can be found on the Lenovo ThinkCentre M83, M93, M93p support page.  Here is the link: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035533

I have no relationship with any of the vendors, just trying to help."

Re: Wifi upgrade y510p

Thanks! My Ebay link is a working one, that one is older and not for sale anymore. If I order from the Dutch store I don't know if it is the same working part (ordered from it before and received something completly different, even after customer service verified that it was the part I was looking for), and in the end the Dutch webstore also charges shipping costs. And also if I call they charge another amount for each call... So the difference is only a maximum of 15 Euros, but likely more like 10 and then I receive what I ordered... I think I will just spend a but more, and just wait... doesn't have to be quick (like next week), I just need to have the right part.
