Win 10 upgrade goes into sleep mode problem on Z70-80

2016-04-20, 10:21 AM

I upgraded to W10 from 8.1 and now having issues with it going into sleep mode in about a min if I don't keep the mouse moving or typing. I updated the drivers that are on the Z70-80 driver page that Lenovo has listed for that model. Except cannot install the Advanced Config & Power Management ACPI dated 2/2/16 ver. 1.5.0.14.201 driver. It just starts but does not fully execute to run that driver program and no errors of why. I've looked at microsoft forum of people who have similiar problems on other types of pc's. One issue is that the screen saver is set to 1 min after the upgrade on Win 10 but changed that to 20 min but did not fix my issue. No indication in the device manager that there is a driver problem. I've changed in settings for power & sleep to never but still goes into sleep mode in about a min.

Hi Zimmy5 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would the pc goes to sleep without any battery ? (to isolate battery trigger for sleep)

How about on safe mode? (to isolate from other services and applications)

You can try clean boot to see if any additional apps can be triggering sleep timer so early.

It may also be needing patch updates for windows 10 so try to finish all windows updates offered for Windows 10.

Since you have set power options to never assuring that hybrid mode disabled and hibernate on never , check also on sleep unattended set for longer hours would help.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Brought system up in safe mode and works fine. Set the screen to go off at different times and works exact on the time to turn off. The following drivers are off in safe mode:

System Interface Foundation driver Lenovo 7.0.53.0 dated 1/25/16

Lenovo Settings Camera Audio  Lenovo 1.80.38.833  dated 8/29/13

Lenovo Settings   Lenovo 13.47.40.553  dated 8/9/13

DDP UMDF  Dolby  13.30.8.406  dated 8/9/13

Qualcomm Atheros   12.0.0.116   dated 7/20/15

Generic PnP Monitor   Microsoft 10.0.10586.0  dated 6/21/2006

Lenovo Easy Camera  Realtek  6.3.9600.11105  dated 6/4/15

I ran windows update and is current with no updates available.

Ran microsoft update drivers and it says all is well with the drivers if you believe that.

I tried in safe mode to install the acpidriver that was downloaded from the Z70-80 driver website on Lenovo called Advanced Config & Power Management ACPI ver. 1.5.0.14.201  dated 2/2/16 and that will not run at all. The other drivers that were available for Windows 10 installed ok but not that one.

Hi Zimmy5 ,

Just to confirm , safe mode works without the machine sleeping.

So that only goes that one of those services would be causing it .

Uninstalling it would help fix the issue , programs simitar to energy manager , lenovo settings that seems not working well with the Windows 10's own built in power savers.

Isolating it best in MSconfig  Clean boot it first and restart and see how it goes,

Try to check also the start up proces and disable those non essential apps , same goes with services which is power related.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Re: Win 10 upgrade goes into sleep mode problem on Z70-80

I came up in clean boot and seems to work ok. I set the sleep to 5 mins and noticed prior to the screen going blank it would dim. I remember that was what it should do back in Win 8.1. But with this problem in Win 10 it just goes blank in 1 min. I noticed there is a Lenovo Utility program in start up tab that is enables. It is ver. 1.5.0.25 dated 1/29/15. In the driver it has only win 8 so why is this either not updated to win 10. Seems like an old power exe program. It was not listed under the programs to be removed in the Win 10 upgrade for Lenovo pc's. Wonder if this is still a good program.

Hi Zimmy5 ,

Multiple energy manager can usually cause this issue , Windows 10 would have its own power utility tool that may not have similar features offer on the old version.

Some opted to just have a clean slate and remove remmant applications.

You can observe it more and if that is useful for you.

I wish Lenovo would put in the list exactly what should be removed for Windows 10. Remmant applications does not mean anything to me as what is old and not a windows 10 supported application. In the applications to be uninstalled  ath this web address:

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht103611

there is mentioned of Lenovo settings and Lenovo Settings 2 is that the same as Lenovo Settings Dependency Package? Then there is Power2Go, OneKey Optimizer, PowerDirector, PowerDVD (is this the same as Lenovo PowerDVD 10?). lenovo seems to use a shorter name for a program but in windows program and features that are installed the name of the application is named similar but not exactly and that leads to confusion.

Re: Win 10 upgrade goes into sleep mode problem on Z70-80

2016-04-26, 14:56 PM

Hi Zimmy5 ,

Greetings.

As the Z70-80 is tested compatible to Windows 10 for upgrade , older softwares from previous OS may not be compatible since Windows 10 offers newer features in replacement of the older ones.

Better not to delete those older files and application yet unless it would be an issue with a newer ones as not all applications are available for Windows 10 but may still be able to run like Power application series (DVD , power2go etc.) Lenovo settings are newer in features offered for Windows 10 .

Best to be conservative and treat each appplication as it comes but not neccessarily removing it not unless it would create any problem.

Just to confirm, the laptop now is able to sleep after isolating it with clean boot knowing that an old power exe application was the one interrupting the sleep control.

Update us with how the pc is doing now with the initial concern.

Regards
