Win 8 in lenovo y500 won't boot

2013-08-23, 21:36 PM
Hello, I have a problem with my lenovo y500, right now my laptop won't boot to Windows 8, it stays in the lenovo black screen and shows "preparing automatic repair" loading for many minutes. Also when it boots, goes to a blue screen where I can choose options like recovery and stuff, the thing is that when I click it, it says that the hard drive is locked and I don't know what to do

I have run into the exact same thing. This must be caused by a windows 8 patch b/c the hard drive is 100%. Roll back your laptop from the repair menu (if even possible) to a prior restore point. If you get a successful rollback please let me know. Thanks!

Re: Win 8 in lenovo y500 won't boot

I don't even get to be in windows, it doesn't boot at all.

I made a restore with one key recovery and still won't boot.  I really don't know what else to do, since this stupid M$ system of not providing a win 8 key with the laptop that the user can see., don't let me download a new win 8 iso from the official website.

I´ve downloaded an enterprise version wich doesn't work either.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

You're legally allowed to download a torrented copy of Windows so long as it is the exact version you have a key for. If you do get the right version, the laptop will automatically install the key for it. Here's what you should be looking for to get the right copy of windows.

Re: Win 8 in lenovo y500 won't boot

I was able to recover my laptop OS, however, it is minus the SSD boot support so my boot time is 3-4 times longer (extremely frustrating).  I had to go into the bios, set SATA controller mode from AHCI to compatible, and UEFI to legacy/compatibility mode as well.  Only then could I access the hard drive, set a recovery to safe mode, run chkdsk /f, and reboot for the full scan.  Once I got it to boot normally, I tried enabling AHCI and UEFI native support, fails every time to boot, so I'm interested if you can boot w/ the two enabled with default settings after your problem is fixed.

PS -- due to this Intel's rapid drive support is disabled/inoperable.

Re: Win 8 in lenovo y500 won't boot

Hey, I got to install windows 8.1 now, but still the boot problem persist, in this case, as soon as the laptop goes through the lenovo screen to load win 8, the screen flashes in all colors, kinda like this http://www.google.co.cr/imgres?start=138&biw=1920&bih=912&tbm=isch&tbnid=M-qkBx42kGQYvM:&imgrefurl=http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php%3Ff%3D49%26t%3D126063&docid=HlaTWrWPbAdVhM&imgurl=http://i.imgur.com/k4iDKXP.jpg&w=1600&h=1200&ei=cMobUp7JKIOC8gTSi4HICA&zoom=1&ved=1t:3588,r:72,s:100,i:220&iact=rc&page=5&tbnh=192&tbnw=232&ndsp=40&tx=147&ty=118 .

Still, after 3 or more tries of rebooting I get to enter windows and almost all works good.  Now I'm updating drivers to see if that resolves the problem, but when I try to install the Intel Video Driver for Windows 8 (64-bit) - IdeaPad Y400, Y500 etc in the Lenovo web page, shows me an error which says "This computer does not meet the minimium requirements to install this software" or something like that.  i don't know what that means and why it doesn't work, I'm going to try and install the Nvidia drivers and see if that helps..

Again, any help is appreciated, thanks to all who have answered so far!

Ok, Windows 8 didn't solve the problem, I've installed windows 7 and everything seems right, but some drivers don't work, like the chipset driver and the intel Graphics driver, so does anyone knows what could be causing the problem? Still shows the "This computer does not meet the minimium requirements to install this software" sign.

Your problem stems from the integrated Intel video being deactivated completely for the Y400/Y500 series since the Nvidia GT 750M has taken over all of the duties that the integrated would otherwise be doing.  You can thank Lenovo for being lazy in not integrating Nvidia Optimus technology.  Long story short, it's as though there is no Intel device for the driver to operate, so it fails.  What you're experiencing is how Lenovo designed our notebooks...

You just need to install the drivers...

The xxxx1972 Y500 uses the Nvidea GT750 drivers.

I installed the Nvidea experience which bumped up the WIN7 experience from 7.3 to 7.4.

I also recommend installing the Nvidea control panel...

Good choice on upgrading to Windows 7!

I also upgraded to WIN7, and no more black death screens and forced recoveries, plus the WiFi(N-2230) no longer shuts down for no reason.

WIN8 is the most unstable OS, that I've used, and I've been a "PC" for over 30 years...

Windows 8 caused my Y500 to be unreliable, with WIN7 Pro it no longer requires monthly restorations. It's not the Y500 it's the WIN8, or the bloatware...

Yep, I'll go just with Nvidia Drivers then, still worried about the Intel drivers, I see no reason why it won't work :/

Yeah, I kinda liked win 8, it was pretty fast, booted fast too (when booted at all), like half the time win 7 take loading, but, I prefer stable over fast anytime.
