i followed this steps.. no exclamation marks in my device manager after.
already had a working XP but i reinstalled and using vista now to upgrade the y310 bios.
had XP up and running but i had problems shutting down or restarting i think it's because of the Norton Antivirus included in the 2nd CD that comes with the lappy.. i don't recommend it.

it's a critical update but i did not see what's the update for
while googling last week i read some y410 users saying that virtualization is now enabled on their cpu after updating but for me i don't think my y310 processor T5550 supports intel virtualization anyway so im not sure what's the update for.. just found out lately. can't boost my VMWARE.
i have another concern with the y310 bios.. does anybody here knows how to show all the bios options? the phoenix bios of the y310 has limited "configurable" menus..
for your ACPI problem have you tried installing the EnergyCut software provided with the lappy? while using XP i tried to uninstall it coz i thought it's the culprit of my shutdown/restart problem. right after restarting i had an exclamation mark on my ACPI entry at the device manager. also, try to follow the README for the install sequence of the driver CD.
found the link.. check this out: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-69703.html

I tried the energy cut software and it worked and all my devices are working. I might not try the bios since I have no problem with the one I'm using and I dont have a copy of vista to install on my machine to do the flashing. The only thing I dont like about this laptop is the slot drive... My disk got cought in it and it took me a while before i got it out. Also its not compatible with smaller disk like the onse a4tech use for their drivers. Good thing I dont need them since xp already has the drivers built in. Thanks for the helping me on the drivers.
BTW i tried to install the SATA drivers but it gives me a BSOD once i change the settings in bios and I cant open xp in boot up. I might add the drivers in the CD and do an fresh install in the future to enable that function, But for now I'll stick with what I have.

have you tried typing your laptop's serial no. on the ibm/lenovo driver download page? that should give you the drivers needed for your y310 XP/Vista setup since there are many y310 types/release. extract the exe files first then look for the README (if there is) or right click on the exe file and check the version.. i downloaded all drivers from the ibm site and i found that the driver disc that came with my y310 was updated if not the same with the downloads.
