Y400 - FN + F5 doesn't work?

Hello everyone, I've been using this particular laptop for the past two and a half months without problems. However, I figured it wouldn't hurt to test out the Airplane Mode toggle today, yet nothing happened when I pressed it.

Has this happened to anyone else, and if so--is there a solution? I've tested all the other FN + F-row shortcuts, and they all work fine; there are also no problems with my Wi-Fi. Thanks in advance.

Re: Y400 - FN + F5 doesn't work?

Hi ekuseru,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the Lenovo Community,

I’d like to help you with the issue that you’re facing,

Could you please check if you have Lenovo Energy management on your application list?

If you don’t have it kindly install from the below Links:

Windows 8:

Energy Managment

Windows 7:

Energy Managment

If you have kindly uninstall it from the program list and reinstall it back.

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

Regards

Soha

Re: Y400 - FN + F5 doesn't work?

Hello SESoha, thank you for replying. I do have Lenovo Energy management installed, and there have been no problems with it.

I looked through my programs list and found my Intel PROSet was updated, so I uninstalled the update, reinstalled the file found on Lenovo's support site, and restarted. That fixed the main problem, but now I think I have a new one.

I have fast startup activated, and sometimes the FN + F5 shortcut doesn't respond until after I restart my computer. Is it possible for fast startup to affect the shortcut?

Re: Y400 - FN + F5 doesn't work?

Hi ekuseru,

I’d like to confirm to you that Enhanced Experience wont affect the function key like FN+F5 and I need you to share with us if still facing the same problem after reinstalling Lenovo Energy management and it would be a pleasure to help you back,

Thanks and Regards,

Soha

Re: Y400 - FN + F5 doesn't work?

May I ask what you mean by Enchanced Experience? I did not mention that in my previous post.

My computer is running Windows 8 and has had fast startup enabled due to it being the default setting. I can try reinstalling Lenovo Energy Management, but I do not think that this is the root of the problem. I will let you know the results once I've done that.

edit:

I tried looking for Energy Management in my installed program files, but it is missing. The icon is definitely in my system tray, and it looks like I cannot uninstall it; is there any other way to remove the program?

If it is of any help, the version of the program is 8.0.2.4; the one you linked me to is 8.0.2.3. Would it be safe to downgrade?

Hi ekuseru,

Can I ask you to check Control Panel programs and uninstall a program and check for Lenovo energy management on this list?

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

Re: Y400 - FN + F5 doesn't work?

I searched and found it, but do you recommend downgrading to 8.0.2.3? The current version I have is 8.0.2.4, and the file you linked is for 8.0.2.3. I cannot seem to find an installation file for 8.0.2.4.

Right now, FN + F5 works fine, but I just restarted my computer. Is Windows 8's fast startup option not supposed to affect its functionality at all?

Re: Y400 - FN + F5 doesn't work?

Hi ekuseru,

No need to downgrade to the Version 8.0.2.4 if it’s working fine now with you J

I’d like to confirm to you that the fast startup won’t affect the functionality of function keys and the power management application,

But if you’d like to disable the Fast startup of windows 8 to see if there would be any change kindly follow the below steps:

To turn it off, open start screen and enter Power Options. Click Settings tab in the right side and select, Change what the power buttons do from the left side.

Once the System Settings window is open, scroll down to the Shutdown settings section and uncheck the Turn on fast startup option.

If the Shutdown settings options are greyed out, scroll back up the window and click the Change settings that are currently unavailable option to be able to change them. Click Save changes button at the bottom to confirm the selection.

From now on, Fast Startup will be disabled and Windows will start as normal.

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

Regards

Re: Y400 - FN + F5 doesn't work?

Hello Soha,

I will refrain from trying to install Energy Management 8.0.2.3, then.

I disabled fast startup as you instructed, and FN + F5 is working again after a restart. When I had fast startup enabled, FN + F5 did not work after subsequent shutdowns.

I have reason to believe that fast startup is disabling this shortcut for unknown reasons, but none of the other shortcuts are affected.

Thank you for your help in solving this dilemma. Smiley Happy
