I have a Y410 Latop and the combo drive was working fine till some days ago. When I insert a CD which I have burned on a XP Thinkpad. It just treats this CD as a blank CD nad tries to write on it by formatting. When I insert this in my thinkpad, it works just fine.
I bet you've got Matshi-ta drive in Y410. it has tonns of troubles in use. Many people passed through this here, please use search to locate these threads. Telling briefly you must go to service centre to replace this.
Sure. The solution is to go to service centre. They'll replace defective drive. What is it based on? It is based on some facts: -Nowdays almost none of burning programs fail to record/read something. So, the problem is hardware. -Lately many Lenovo custoemrs here reported om Matsh-ita drives. 100% of them were provided the answer of "go to service", by me too. -If drive doesn't read some media or doesn't properly record something, it's either bad media or weak laser (90% cases, 10% is other electronics inside DVDROM). I do not recommend tuning laser by yourself, this can cause warranty loss.
