Re: Y50-70 Bios setting change without screen

I hope someone can help me out. I have a y50-70 with NO built in screen. The screen broke and I removed it.

I've been using HDMI to an external monitor.

I was trying to boot from USB and switched to legacy boot and might have turned off secure boot. When I saved and exited from the bios I no longer have video on my external monitor.

Could someone please provide all the detailed steps to blindly enter bios with novo and navigate to changing the boot settings back to UEFI and saving and exiting.

I might also need the steps for secure boot as well.

I have tried to watch video's and look at screen shots to blindly navigate the bios, I have tried to boot to other USB live OS's, removed battery and CMOS connection to reset bios, and of course mashing the keyboard for hours.

Re: Y50-70 Bios setting change without screen

Spidey, Thank you for your help.

I figured it out by using a different laptops screen. It turns out I was wrong about the bios menus and you were correct. But it was already set to switchable graphics. It seems HDMI is just disabled in legacy until windows boots and it wouldn't boot to that drive because it would wait and fail at PXE...

The correct buttons to press if someone needs to switch back to UEFI is:

1. Novo button from power off state

2. wait a sec

3. down

4. enter

5. right 3 times

6. f6

7.f10

8. Enter

I didn't know if I had to enter yes or move left/right to select yes on exit. It's a difficult screenshot to find.

When you press F10 on this one it pops up with a confirmation dialog box on the "yes" selection waiting for enter.

I also didn't realize the left and right will only change through menus unless there is an enter > popup selection so use f6 to change things as Spidey suggested.

Thanks again my issue is solved and saved me from trashing a decent setup.

Y50-70 Bios setting change without screen

Re: Y50-70 Bios setting change without screen

Hi music4dan ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The BIOS Configuration tab have Graphic Device option that should be changed to switchable .

While the machine is off , use the novo button to turn on and this should give you the Recovery Boot Menu :

Press down arrow once to choose BIOS set up and press enter .

Press right arrow key to move from Information to Configuration tab

Use down arrow 3 times to highlight Graphic Device and press enter then F6 or right arrow for Switchable.

Press F10 to save and exit

Use this module for reference (BIOS and Firmware).

Hope this helps answer your needs.

Regards

Re: Y50-70 Bios setting change without screen

Thank you very much for your reply. I don't know how you found that tool module. It doesn't seem to come up in any of my searches.

I did try your steps and it did not work. I repeated them a few times but I think I remember my Bios have more menus.

I have confirmed it's model by serial it is a Y50-70 Touch Laptop (Lenovo) - Type 80DT - Model CTO.

I have tried to translate your steps to this menu and look at more google images but those attempts have failed.

any chance you can advise on this menu or provide a matching module?

Re: Y50-70 Bios setting change without screen

Hi music4dan ,

Greetings.

Can you try to blindly enter BIOS and FN + F9 to load defaults then FN + F10 to save and exit.

Restart and allow to boot to Windows , try toggling win WIN key + P or FN + F3 to attempt toggle display to external.

If same issue, try the same process again as described above and FN + F10 and restart .

Other older modules do not have switchable graphics in configuration but you can also review else check other models for BIOS simulators .

If attempts gets you tired then you may have to secure another compatible LCD instead or have a service center configure the BIOS or ultimately get LCD replaced.

Hoping for the best.

Regards
