Y50-70 Dim From Bios to Windows

Hello,

I have about lost my mind working on this Lenovo Y50-70 Touchscreen.  It came in and has a Dim/No backlight issue.  When you turn it on I can see the Lenovo logo if I hold a flash light to the screen.  I can then see it load up Windows 10 as I still hold the flash light on.  I can connect the computer VIA HDMI and see everything on the external monitor but the main screen remains dim.  I thought the screen backlight went out.  So I replaced the touchscreen with a brand new one and sure enough, it was still Dim, from Bios to Windows.  At this point I tried doing an Bios update. . . Still Dim.  I went as far as replacing the motherboard thinking maybe a graphics issue at this point with a brand new motherboard... STILL DIM.  What am I misisng here!? I know older laptops used Inverters but new ones as far as I know don't use them anymore.  Please please help! This was not a cheap laptop.

Re: Y50-70 Dim From Bios to Windows

Hi beachfrontcpu ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Seing that the display is dim from the BIOS to Windows and that external display is ok then probability for LCD panel and cable can be the point of failure.

You can check on the FRU part number from the parts lookup page and check with lenovo encompass for pricing and availability. Herewith is the hardware manual for reference.

Hope this help answer your query.

Update us how it goes best for you.

Regards

Can the ribbon from the screen to the motherboard cause the backlight not to work? Thank you for the reply! I will try anything at this point!

Re: Y50-70 Dim From Bios to Windows

Hi beachfrontcpu ,

I try the LCD cable first reseating it or changing since it is cheaper and easier but them again usually for this is the LCD panel / burnout lighting .

Regards
