Y50-70 - Display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

2017-01-06, 18:53 PM

Hello,

  My Lenovo Y50-70's screen often freezes producing this error in the Event Viewer:

Display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

- <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">
- <System>
  <Provider Name="Display" />
  <EventID Qualifiers="0">4101</EventID>

  <Computer>Tommer-LA</Computer>
  <Security />
  </System>
- <EventData>
  <Data>igfx</Data>
  <Data />
  </EventData>
  </Event>

This error occurs pretty regularly, and when it does occur it often makes me lose the game - Or causes some games to crash out which is utterly unnacceptable for a Laptop built for gaming.

 I'm not being funny but, I've tried all the Intel Graphics Drivers. I've tried old ones, I've tried new ones, I've tried the latest customized ones you at Lenovo supply - They are all duff. They all exhibit the same behaviour.

 The Only way I've managed to get my laptop to be stable is to simply uninstall the Intel Graphics Drivers completely and rely on Microsoft's basic Display Driver which tells me that nothing is wrong with my hardware, you guys are simply providing bad drivers.

 Do you have a solution? Do you plan to deliver a solution?

 If I can't get this issue solved let me just say I won't be buying Lenovo again. This was a really expensive laptop and it really takes the cake that you guys can't even supply some stable display drivers for it.

(Windows 10 x64 non-touch edition)

Guess you're done with it then. Have you updated the driver and other tools such as chipset utility. Most likely a bug in the driver you're using. As with a lot of other issue. You wait and wait and/or call tech support.

This is a user support forum only. Talk to Lenovo Tech support directly if there is a fix or not we don't know.

It is rather hard to solve now. IIRC, both Intel GPU driver from Lenovo and Intel website will not solve the problem anymore. But you should try lastest driver from Intel webite. You have to do manual install of the driver, because the setup cannot find the appropriated driver.

If the Intel driver cannot solve the problem. You have to fully uninstall the Intel driver. Either by Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) or choose to deleted the driver when uninstall from device manager. You'll have to uninstall until the display driver say 'Microsoft Basic...'

After you uninstall all display driver. Run Windows Update, it will detect and download 2 Intel Driver (may change in the future). Normal Driver and Update for Intel driver. After installation, you'll have to go to device manager and choose manual update. You'll find a driver date about 29 september 2016 version 20.19.15.4531 (If your driver already version 20.19.15.4531 after Windows Update, you're ready to go). Update to that version and this should fix the problem.

Hope this can help.

Edit : For more information on the problem.

It is not like Lenovo have faulty driver. Because 4600 is rather old model. Intel even not provide any update anymore. This problem come with Anniversary Update of Windows 10. So, only Microsoft is solving the problem now. Not to mention some people report that the lastest driver have issue while some people report lastest driver solve their issue. That is why Microsoft provide 2 version of driver.

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.
I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!
