Y50-70 - Lenovo guys, you have probably screwed the installation here!!

Ok first of all i do not want to judge any of you, i just had to make the header catchy enough.

Hi.

I have bought Lenovo Y50-70 2 days ago. With legal, genuine OEM Windows 8.1

However i experience problem -- cannot upDATE my windwos (NOT to win10, but to newer version of 8.1) at all!!

Upon further investigation, i've found that my BIOS key is NOT the same as the pre-installed windows 8.1 key.
They are both legit and genuine however the BIOS key is for WINDOWS 10! It cannot be used on 8.1.
And i have supposingly bought 8.1 and i want to use 8.1.

Now it seems whoever first made the laptop (Lenovo??) like so, screwed this part a bit.
He/She embeded the win 10 key into the bios, but put pre-installed 8.1 with another key... and its a bit of a chaos, aye?

I asked microsoft and the tec supported said she never saw something done like so (we had a look into my laptop's keys via program that digs them).

Now i do not want to judge or anything, don't worry.
I have call with tier 2 technician from Microsoft schechuled for tomorrow.

I just want to ask here: IS IT POSSIBLE to edit (change) the BIOS-KEY from the laptop? That way i wont have to go the windows 10 route!! I want to stay with 8.1!!

If not -- is there someone who can help/support me?

Thank you,
Dimitar

BIOS keys cannot be edited. I a newer release is available and there was an issue Lenovo may have done something.

The license is issued to Lenovo by MS. The END

Have you called Lenovo Tech support? First place for legitimate OS activation issues.

Re: Y50-70 - Lenovo guys, you have probably screwed the installation here!!

Many ways
- every notebook comes with the warranty info and support phone number(S) for your region
- the Support link at the top of the page gives you two options once you have had the SN detected or you enter it in for the model and warranty is confirmed. You can select Call Back which is the easiest and happens in a minute for me or you call them from a list.

Its all there if you look and read. This is not a Technical Support forum. Merely an area where end users can post problems or issues especially after warranty is over since you have to pay Lenovo. Sometimes a Lenovo specialist may respond if they're on the forum but that process can take months to resolve a problem.
