Y50-70 - Sudden blackscreen (backlight + Windows still works)

Hi,

I got a Y50-70 with a intel Core i7 and a GTX960.

Well I bought it last year and since some months my display gets randomly black. Windows is still running and I can use it with an external monitor with no problems. I think it is either a GPU problem or a dispaly problem

I did a lot of troubleshoot and installed Win8/Win8.1 and Win10 more than 10 times. With drivers, without any drivers, no solution yet.

To fix the problem I always set my laptop into standby mode and then turned back. The screen normally works after that but after some time it happens another time. Sometimes I observed that the screen gets back to its normal status after some time but I can´t say it for sure.

I saw a thread that it might be the "screen-inverter". Don´t know what it is and what it does but maybe it helps for a faster solution.

The only reason that I didnt send my laptop to Lenovo is that I need it for my university.

Re: Y50-70 - Sudden blackscreen (backlight + Windows still works)

Hi fixme4 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Since you still have a viewable screen , best to back up everything that you need.

As the case maybe similar to this post and that it may be a hardware issue :

While hardware could be the cause in some cases, Lenovo has also determined that these symptoms may also be caused by downlevel BIOS.  Please see this tip from Lenovo - it is in the process of being updated to also include recommendations to update the Video driver and to make a setting change.

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht104147 "

On other cases , rolling back the drivers did help.

Before proceeding with anything I would suggest calling technical support specially if you have previously called in to report this before the warranty got expired and check for other options.

Update us how it goes.

Regards
