Y50-70 heating up when charging

Hello all,

since 2 days, whenever i insert the charger the following happens:

- The battery icon says its not charging, but when I flick between battery saver mode and “normal” mode, I see the battery percentage going up every minute.

-The more serious, the left of the keyboard gets very hot en smells a bit like burned plastic or something. When i detach the charger, the laptop gets “cold” again.

Whats happening here?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Y50-70 heating up when charging

Hi Bowis,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

I would suggest not to use the charger especially if you feel that there is a possible event that can harm your machine without having a certified tech check it first. This goes with all other electronic devices we have at home or in the office.

Call technical support for in warranty repair or with your nearest service center as soon as possible.

They would be the best to check what is causing such symptoms, therefore, prevent damage to the motherboard and other parts including your safety in general sense.

Regards

Re: Y50-70 heating up when charging

Thanks for the response. I ordered a replacing power supply, the laptop does not respond to it at all. I have opened the laptop but I do not see anything out of the ordinary, i could send pictures if necessary

As for repair, I do not have any warranty anymore unfortunately.

Re: Y50-70 heating up when charging

Hi Bowis,

Greetings.

I would suggest that you have any local service center check it for a systemboard issue.

They would be able to test the board circuits and would be able to suggest how to proceed in needing just the power board or entire motherboard replacement.

Regards
