I managed to mess up my Windows 8.1 factory install almost as soon as I unboxed my Y50-70 with a couple of boneheaded moves.
I was able to restore Windows from a downloaded USB image from Microsoft and the BIOS Windows key on the laptop.
So far so good.
The boot is on /dev/dsa1 as fat32.
I have a suspicion that the system when installed was in a different location from the factory. The reason for my suspicion is the following.
When trying to install Ubuntu 14.04 as a dual boot, Ubuntu cannot see the Windows OS.
I have tried shrinking the Windows partition using the windows partition utility.
I have also changed the unallocated space from shrinking to ext4 using GParted.
Do I need to change the Windows boot location or change the BIOS boot type to get Ubuntu to see it should install alonside Windows?
