Y50 Bios 3.03 problem

2015-09-30, 15:15 PM

So, I updated my laptop, Y50-70, to bios version 3.03. Suddenly it would just shut down randomly. Surfing the web, playing games, typing word documents. Just "Blip" and turned off.

Checked the hard drive, ran diagnostics, just when I was about to give up. I thought, nah, couldn't be the bios update could it? Rolled back to 1.08, and laptop runs like a dream again. Tested with every bios version I could find(I like to live dangerously) and only 3.0.3 causes this problem.

Runs fine with:

zivy2113

9ecn31ww

9ecn37ww

9ecn38ww

9ecn40ww

Currently running 9ecn40ww and it's working great. Not going to go back to 9ecn43ww

Read my Post. Click the link to the readme file for the version you want, and change text to exe.

Hi, I'm having the same issue but I can't seem to find a reliable older version of the bios. Where did you find 40ww or 38ww? Any help is appreciated since the lenovo support is not being very helpful at all. Also, did you have any issues with flushing to an older version of Bios? Anything specific you had to do?

Thanks.

Here are the readme files for the bios versions, actual bios is just exe instead of txt. There is a setting in bios that allows you to downgrade the bios, you'll have to look for it.

I've got a y50-70, these work for me, I make no promises for anyone else, if you aren't sure or are uncomfortable about flashing a bios and possibly turning your computer into a paperweight, don't do it.

Thanks for the help. I found 38ww on one of the sites and it was really easy to flush to the previous version. And I've had to problems since then.

I also updaded to 3.03 version. The main problem that I have is that when i change boot device priority to boot first from DVD, when I restart and enter BIOS the change wasn't saved, so SATA HDD is first in list again

I also noticed that I can't use the Fn+arrow up/down to increase/decrease brightness, as well I don't have anymore the adjusting bar in the power plan menu

My older version was 9ecn26ww(v1.09) and it worked fine. How can I restore to that version?

You have to change BIOS settings to enable BIOS Downgrade

I had the same issue i created separate post for it:

You have to go into your BIOS settings, and in the settings will be an option to enable/disable to previous version.  Enable it, then exit normally to your desktop and if you installed verion of BIOS you want, just run it like any normal program.

Hi, I upgraded from 1.08 to 3.03 and my lapton says that its just a dual core instead of a cuad core with 8 threads, could you please hang somewhere the 1.08 version of the bios firmware so i can downgrade? It seems like lenovo has too much pride to admit that these updates dont work and destroy your pc and refuse to hand over previous versions of the BIOS. (already tried 2.02 and 1.13 and didnt solve the problem, i am desperate).
