Re: Y50 Yellow /Dark Yellow - Screen Calibration

As far as I know, these higher level calibration devices do much more than simply change the brightness and contrast, which is why I am wondering if they will work to aid in fixing this problem.  The Spyder4Pro has a full spectrum color sensor, in addition to measuring the luminance and contrast/gamma.

Re: Y50 Yellow /Dark Yellow - Screen Calibration

While the hardware calibrators have those features, what they lack, as far
as I know, is the critical factor here - a real time ability to inspect
every frame to get statistics out of it - e.g. how much red, green, blue,
and white are present, where, and at what intensity. The hardware
calibrators will do a great job on predefined calibration screens, but they
expect the display to not go around doing strange things like changing its
behavior just because the screen no longer contains as much yellow, or red,
or blue, etc.

I could very well be wrong here, though I'd be surprised if they can
capture frame contents from all surfaces, like SDL, GDI, D3D, OpenGL, etc.

I would not personally waste the money since a good calibrator costs more
than swapping the laptop for a better screen tech.

All that said, the tl;dr version is -
"I haven't tried it, but I expect it won't work"

Re: Y50 Yellow /Dark Yellow - Screen Calibration

You can save your sanity and just ghetto hack it like I did; change your desktop background to something colorful near the taskbar and make the taskbar as transparent as possible. In desktop apps, that seems to be enough to correct it, so long as it's always visible, of course. This corrects the colors across the entire screen.

No money lost on my end--as a professional photographer, I already own one of these devices.  I'll report back once I have attempted to calibrate my y50-70 (eta March 3rd.)

Huh?  How in the world does this work?  Please explain.  I'm willing to try anything once it gets here.  The y50-70 literally seems like the perfect laptop for my needs, barring any issues with the yellow screens.

I assume you mean my reference to changing the desktop background. Basically all you need to do is make sure the screen contains enough of any color extreme and the dynamic contrast will boost color intensity and fix yellow. The faded color issue also applies to red, green and blue, but yellow is the most noticeable.

The color has to be very intense over a small space, like a solid red  - rgb(255,0,0) - or solid blue - rgb(0,0,255), or less intense over the entire screen. I know, it's hard to understand what I'm driving at.

In short, just set your desktop background to "Lines and Colors" or "Windows" default orange themes and watch the colors magically correct themselves.

Not an ideal solution, but it seems to be enough to make me start to live with the problem.

LENOVO Y50 4k screen - YELLOW PROBLEM

Hello everyone,

I have just bought new lenovo y 50 with the 4k resolution screen. What i found terrible was the yellow color on the screen. I found a similar topic here, on lenovo community but without any reasonable solution. PLEASE let me know if someone solved the problem? THE YELLOW IS SO BAD that I have pain in my eyes. It cost me around 1k euros and for that price i expect better quality. Here in Poland no one answers the phone in customer support so i decided to write my opinion here. PLS HELP

Best,

ANDREW

Search the forum and you'll discover you are not alone. Far from it. See this thread for a good overview of what's going on.

Re: LENOVO Y50 4k screen - YELLOW PROBLEM

Does updating the BIOS help? The Yoga 2 Pro's yellow screen issue was fixed in a BIOS update.
