Re: Y500 Gaming Laptop 2013 firmware update V1.05 to V2.xx

Due to the age of your system, Lenovo has now moved the Y500 downloads to their Legacy End of Life file library.  Those downloads can be found at this link.....

https://download.lenovo.com/eol/index.html

Unfortunately there are no BIOS updates for your model.  Sorry!

Edit:  There appears to be a naming conflict concerning the Y500 model.  There is a Lenovo 3000 Y500 model and an Ideapad Y500 model.  I have listed the downloads for the Lenovo 3000 Y500 above.  For the Ideapad Y500, I have listed those downloads below.......

Using the model number you provided I was able to identify your system as the Ideapad Y500.   For your reference, you can review the PSREF specifications for the Y500 at the link below.......

Hi Majestic, Thanks so much for finding this info. I saw the last link that you listed above before but since it said windows 8, and I'm on windows 10 I was not sure if it would brick my laptop because the OS was different or if that doesnt make a difference? do you know by any chance? and just for clarification It is the Idea pad Y500 with the red LED keyboard.

Re: Y500 Gaming Laptop 2013 firmware update V1.05 to V2.xx

When that BIOS upgrade was released it was tested for Windows 8 and possibly configured for that operating system.  I'm not sure when used with Windows 10 or in the compatibility mode of Windows 10 whether it will fail. I have never had the opportunity of doing a BIOS update under those conditions.  There is always an element of risk when doing a BIOS update and they can fail even under the most perfect conditions.  If the BIOS update isn't needed to fix a problem you are having or needed to support a new feature you wish to add, it might be best to leave it alone.
