Y500 - Should I Replace the Screen?

I have a Y500, it works perfect, except the screen won't turn on. I connected it to an external monitor and no problem.

 

I tried to replace the screen cable twice. The first time, nothing has changed. In the second cable, the screen has turned on for a few seconds and died again.

 

If I replace the screen do you think it will surely work? Because everything works fine except the monitor.

 

It was like this since 3 years.

 

My only concern is what if the new monitor won't help.

 

Is it possible?

 

(There's nothing I didn't try BTW)

Hi senjido,

 

Welcome to the Community Forums.

 

Having a working external monitor does assures that it is not a driver issue and graphic chip is ok. This does isolates probable point of failure from the LCD cable port (on board), cable or LCD port /panel.

 

Anywhere from this end may have caused this so since you have tried a working cable then perhaps a spare LCD from service centers can help isolate it further from the ports or LCD panel itself.

 

It is therefore possible that it is the panel but can also be the LCD port.
