Y500 Touchpad problem

2012-12-08, 2:40 AM

I am getting some kind of weird touchpad problem. Basically it says (according to the elan app anyways) that I have a finger on the touchpad when I don't.  symbol.png "This image is saying that my finger on the the touchpad, but it isn't."

However I believe this is a software problem, not a hardware, because when I did a clan install, it worked like it should have for awhile. Then after deleting some bloatware and restarting, this problem came up again. Help?

Hi all,

thanks for posting. We really appreaciate the patience and the suggestion that has been posted here. However our teams have investigated this issue and those facing this issue and have tried reinstalling the latest driversand issue still persist to contact our service team immeadiately to the trackpad repaired. If uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers from our support site still shows failure, you may be facing a hadware issue as opposed to a standard driver issue.

At this is point there is not much we can via the forum and the ponly thing left is to contact our service teams.

For the moment I will put this case as resolved and will continue to monitor this issue. Should this may not be the final resolution we will gladly take a look further into this issue and and unmark this as not being the resoltuion.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Try updating the touchpad drivers from the synaptic site.

uh yeah, I know this may sound stupid, but I can't find it. I went to the elan website and it said that I should go to the manufacture website for the driver, but lenovo has put nothing up for y500 drivers or softwares.

I am starting to believe that this is a hardware problem, b/c I am having times where when it works and when it doesn't work now. Going to call them about it.

I am starting to believe it is a hardware problem as well. Is ANYONE's touchpad working properly? Mine sure does not - unusable.

I installed this driver and it improved things (i.e. I haven't had to reboot every 30 minutes because the mouse pointer won't move). It's still not perfect, but better: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS032199

It seems that the left mouse button rarely works. I have to tap most of the time for left-click functionality.

Thanks for the link.

I also installed the new driver and, so far, it's working pretty good. I'm still getting some arrow drift after I right click but it seems a lot better. I have a replacement laptop on the way because the support team concluded I had a hardware issue with the touchpad.

Now, I'm thinking it just may be a buggy driver and I hope the next version is even better. I'll check out the new unit and see if it's better out of the box. If not, I may keep the one I have since, other than this, it's a fine machine in every way.

Addendum: I don't know if this was installed with the new driver or already there but I found an Elan folder in the Program Files folder of the C: drive. There are a few short demo videos and a nice touchpad configuration program.

I messed around with this and the touchpad seems pretty stable now.

Re: Y500 Touchpad problem

2012-12-22, 21:16 PM

I've been reading extensively on this problem and none of the proposed solutions work for me. I own this machine less than 24 hours and this problem is getting on my nerves. At first it worked fine and then all of sudden it started fooling around.

I've read that the smiliar specd machine, the Asus n56, has the same touchpad problems. So maybe a Win8 issue or perhaps the touchpads are of the same manufacturer so it's a hardware problem. It would be a shame if I have to return the machine to Lenovo to get it fixed. It should work out of the box.

Looking forward to a working solution!

EDIT: Found an apparent temporary solution on this website: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/700095-y500-touchpad-issue-2.html The issue seems to go away when you put the system to sleep and wake it up again. But the poster wrote the problem returns later.

EDIT2: Problem returns after half an hour... grrrrrr....
