Y500 Wireless disconnecting every 5 min

I have been browsing the forums for about 2 hours have not found a solution that works. The internal wifi adapter (Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230) has been giving me really spotty connection. I have had very minimal connection issues up until today. I have tried re-installing the drivers and doing a bunch of other stuff to no avail. I don't know what other info to give aside from the type of adapter and the type of laptop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my only computer right now and I need my usb port back lol

Re: Y500 Wireless disconnecting every 5 min

Dear Sugarsnipes

Welcome in lenovo forums

Please make sure that the access point is stable and it doesn’t cut the signal off , also please advise how the Wi-Fi goes off , does it give you limited access or totally disconnecting ?

Please let me know

Thanks

Alaa

Recently Intel publish a new driver (version 15.8) that claims to remedy or solve the connectivity problem. You may want to give this a try. Here is the download link:

Re: Y500 Wireless disconnecting every 5 min

WOO

I think I got it. I kept digging on this forum and found where I needed to change the "802.11n Channel Width for band 2.4" to Auto. My internet has been leaps and bounds better than it was before. faster too. to reply to the other questions. I know it's not my router because we have a 6 person house and nobody is experiencing wireless problems, plus I could fix the problem by using my back-up usb wifi adapter. Thanks for the suggestions Smiley Very Happy

Re: Y500 Wireless disconnecting every 5 min

I'm glad that everything worked out for you.  I've been experiencing the same problem on my brand new IdeaPad P500.  I am currently using another wi-fi other than the one at home and I have had no dropped signal for over an hour.  I think the problem is our Century Link modem but I would like to know exactly what you did to change the "802.11n Channel Width for band 2.4" to Auto.  I am somewhat technically savvy but that is "Greek" to me.  Thanks!

In Device manager right click on your wireless card and select properties. Goto the advanced tab and then look there. I just switched it on mine and it seems to have perked up a bit, but only time will tell. I've updated to the newest driver I could find as well.

Re: Y500 Wireless disconnecting every 5 min

This has been a real problem for a while but...I'm quite sure I have found the solution! In Device Manager/Network Adapters/(your wireless)/Advanced there is a setting called "Roaming Aggressiveness". What this does is try to balance performance and connectivity. On my network (and I'm sure most others) there are several wi-fi possibilities, so when performance drops on the primary network it disconnects and tries to find another network. Of course, the other networks aren't connected so the wi-fi goes belly up. I have set this option to "lowest" so the wireless client will not roam (looking for another network). I haven't lost the connection all day(!) and I haven't noticed any difference in performance. Give it a try!

Re: Y500 Wireless disconnecting every 5 min

Hey Guys I have a y410p and I must say i'm glad that i've found this post, I work in a computer shop ( full time student here) surrounded by decent to very good techs, ive never had a computer problem that annoying in years. I bought a brand new y410p about 15 days ago, and most of it is VERY satisfying. There are a few quirks however, the biggest one being the friggin wifi. First of all, it works amazingly well everywhere, EXCEPT at work. We use a regular wpa network, and the **bleep** thing disconnects every five minutes.

If i'm lightly using it, just browsing, it'll last a bit longer, after which, the network stays up, im still connected to it, but it shows me a limited connection that does not have internet. So network up, internet down. The router is an old G piece of crap, that's been there for longer than most employees have but it's never failed and rebooting it wouldnt be too good with all the servers running on it etc.

The thing is, we, and the network tech, tried EVERYTHING POSSIBLY IMAGINABLE and it didnt fix the issue, but, home it works fine, school, coffee shops, my friend's palces, my parent's place etc.

Just at work. The windows troubleshooter tells me the gateway is unavailable and then proceeds to fix it, and restores the internet, for a few minutes only.

I would really appreciate someone helping me tackle this issue, which seems related to yours.

(Also, been trying to find an unlocked bios for the 510p and 410p, the bios being the second disspointing part of my purchase, cant downclock, cant diablecores, can't force onboard graphics, can't do **bleep**, can't even boot from msata SSD unless I install a boot manager or spam f10 before opening and choose the ssd)

Re: Y500 Wireless disconnecting every 5 min

It's not the work router for sure since other devices connect fine. You can try to tweak the advanced settings for the adapter to the following:

802.11n mode -> Disabled

Fat Channel Intolerant -> Enabled

802.11n Channel Width for band 2.4 -> 20 MHz

Only apply these at the G router at work. Hope this makes the connection stable.
