I have a huge problem with my y500 laptop. One day as i was closing the lid the screen flickered, then the next time i closed/opened the laptop the screen would only display bright white static.
Due to symptoms i decided to try and replace the LCD cable. This had no effect.
Next i attempted to replace the LCD panel itself, unfortunately, this had no effect either.
An important thing to note is that i can connect an external display through VGA port, blindly press the hotkeys to switch displays, and then the laptop would work correctly with the external display.
This led me to the unfortunate conclusion that the part of the GPU responsible for the 40-pin LCD port has died and there is no replacing it.
I'm out of options and i turn to the forums for possible advice, if i had missed something or if there is anything at all i can try.
