Y5070 CPU throttle issue

Hello everyone,

My lenovo y5070 has an intel i7 4720hq processor running at 2.6 ghz with Turboboost up to 3.6 ghz (thats what its supposed to be).I noticed (using the task manager) the fact that the processor will only go up to 3.3 ghz on full load.I need to mention that the laptop is plugged in and the power option is set to maximum performance (with advanced option ''maximum processor state'' set to 100%) on windows 10.There are no other powersaving options turned on and I haven't managed to find anything else in the bios.

Thank you for your time!

Re: Y5070 CPU throttle issue

Really?Isn't that illegal given the fact that on the specs of the laptop there is no mark on this?

Re: Y5070 CPU throttle issue

I think it's legal. Manufacturer limited turbo bust- that would not be overheating.

Re: Y5070 CPU throttle issue

Hmmm, when you pay for some specs you don't think about those specs to be lowered by the manufacturer (haven't seen any customer's notice on the product about this ''feature'').I know that those 0.3 ghz wouldn't make such a difference but I'm curious if there's a way around this, given that temperature is not an issue (I have a very good laptop cooler)? Is there an issue regarding power consumption?

Re: Y5070 CPU throttle issue

In the customers stand point it would seem illegal, but by the company's stand point its to save their own asses, from the costs of repairing overheated laptops. Repairing an over heated laptop pretty much requires replacing the WHOLE motherboard as almost all the modules, excluding wifi/hddsdd/ and few other modules, are soldered.

Re: Y5070 CPU throttle issue

Actually, the 3.6 Ghz, as advertised, is the maximum clock speed when running a single core. When running two cores, the maximum clock speeds would approximately 3.5 Ghz. When running three or all four cores, the maximum clock speed would be somewhere around 3.4 Ghz
