I keep getting this message on startup...

"3rd master drive atapi incompaitble"

It then tells me to press F2 to enter setup

anyone know how to resolve this(does not prevent me from booting up but its annoying)

Re: Y510 3rd master drive atapi incompatible

here the possible reasons & solutions :
- new hardware installed recently. ( remove the device )
- error with settings in bios. ( reset bios settings )
- bios battery is bad or failing. ( change the battery )

and please tell me which is the 3rd device in bios ( press f2 to view it )

Re: Y510 3rd master drive atapi incompatible

The third master drive, if i read correctly, is the optiarc cd/dvd drive. I have not made any hardware(or software for teat fact) changes in the past. I have had it serviced for the known hinge issue but that was by lenovo and was functioning properly after that date.

I have reset the bios settings already but have not checked the battery.

I think the problem is because of a possible loose cable/connector for the optiarc drive. I am currently trying to install windows 7 ultimate and the drive is having a hard time running setup(constant errors and quits because it says it can not find certains files or folders).

appreciate the help

Re: Y510 3rd master drive atapi incompatible

no need to check the battery.

like you said, you are having trouble with your cd/dvd device. ( possible loose cable/connector for the optical drive like you said )

you can try to remove and make sure cd/dvd rom seated well. ( read this thread )

if you're sure your cd/dvd rom seated well, you may need to change it. ship it back to lenovo to change it.
