Y510P - how to fix the power jack on the mobo?

Our old Y510P's power jack had been declining for awhile. First it got finicky about whether it was connected or not - power would only work if it the plug was in at the right angle (usually needing support). Then one day the jack just stopped working altogether.

Looking at the jack, it was pushed in a bit, farther from the edge than it had been originally. I took the laptop apart to see if moving it closer would work, but it didn't work even when the adaptor was properly plugged in. So I surmise that the DC jack needs replacing (or at least that's the cheapest option to try).

Can I just buy a Y510P dc power jack from any place? They seem to range in price from $8-15. Maybe this is a good time to replace the keyboard as well.

Re: Y510P - how to fix the power jack on the mobo?

Hi echoleaf

Greetings.

It would be best if you review the hardware manual here.

From the module here (power connector), seems that you would need to remove other parts too to have the DC in port checked.

Part number 90001162 QIQY6 DC-IN Board W/Cable(Y510p) (item 15 page 85 and 88)

Verify is the wirings to the DC in port are not loosely placed so it may just need a bit soldering spot

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Thanks - I've already taken the whole thing apart. Having the part number is helpful, I'll order it & hope for the best.

Hi echoleaf,

Greetings.

You can also verify the part number for the DC in port using your serial number here on the parts lookup page.
