or is necessary to get to those 16 tabs?

Yes, you have to remove the bottom and then bend the tabs to remove the dust filter.

Re: Y510p Ultimate Cooling Mods Revealed...Unshroud your cooling fans!

does it damage the fans if they work full power during playing games ? like 3 4 hourse [ just to be safe ] or is it like it reduce their life alot ?

im asking cause i can see fans can work much faster but they dont...and that makes me wonder why ?

if its ok to use them full power during playing game im thinking about making a mod that doesnt damage ur laptop no cuting ....and ill post it here when im done

but i need the annswer for these 2 question

1 is it ok for the fans to go 100% for a long period of time [ my old laptops did and no problem dont know about this one cause it never runs 100% just throtell down ?! !! ]

why lenovo doesnt let the fans to get to 100% whats the reason ? whats the thinking behinde it ? [ cause i dont think its that hard for them to fix it by an update since the dust rremoval tool can speed the fans up ]

Re: Y510p Ultimate Cooling Mods Revealed...Unshroud your cooling fans!

It's fine for the fans to run at 100% for long periods of time like OP stated. It'll just be loud. I personally had a single slot Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT 512MB in my desktop for 3 years that ran at 100% fan speed for hundreds, maybe thousands of hours, while gaming and benchmarking with a very high overclock and overvolt and it never wore out or got noisy. The card is still functioning perfectly fine to this day, despite getting abused with 90+ C temperatures daily. And most other gaming notebooks allow you to max out the fan speed. I've never heard of any problems with them either. So yeah, I wouldn't worry about it.

There is already an easy, non-destructive physical mod to the fan wiring that you can do, but it'll run it at 100% 24/7: http://forum.techinferno.com/lenovo-ibm/7139-fan-mod-guide-performance-results.html

I have NO IDEA why Lenovo made the max fan speed so slow or chose not to implement software fan control. It's pretty inexcusable when you consider how badly the Y510p overheats at times. Laziness? Incompetence? Dunno. Anyway, you can give up any hope of them ever fixing this through an update. Because they won't. I'm 110% certain of this. All we can do is mod it ourselves.

Re: Y510p Ultimate Cooling Mods Revealed...Unshroud your cooling fans!

My specs in sig. Idle at around 40C for CPU and GPU. Load is 80-85C, although Ultrabay can go as high as 90C.
