Y510p problem with sound

Hi, everyone!

I have a lenovo y510p (Windows 8). Everything is just fine expect for the speakers (sound).

I have downloaded the latest Realtek codecs, drivers and blabla. It makes some noise (like the noise the radio makes when there is no channel). When I plug in headphones I have the same problem so I am sure that the speakers are OK.

Any help?

Re: Y510p problem with sound

hi skull4e

  Just a suggestion

Open Control Panel / Hardware and sound / Sound, then go to Recording Tab

Make sure :Show disabled and Show Disconnected devices are checked then disable the Mic. Check if the sound issue is still there

-If still the same issue-

On the same windows go to Playback Tab, high light your Speakers and hit properties.

Go to Enahncements Tab and place a check on Disable All Enhancements, then  hit apply

see if that fixes it.

Regards

Re: Y510p problem with sound

The thing with the mic didn't work.

On the other hand, when I disabled all enhancements most of the noise disappeared. It used to be really annoying and now I can bear it but I feel like the sound is not that good.

Thank you anyways.

P.S. I am still open for suggestions.

Re: Y510p problem with sound

Well.. I thought that the cooling system or something could be changing the sound and found out that when I am working on High Performance the sound is awful, on Balanced is bearable and on Power saver there is almost no problem.. I looked through the advanced setting is the all three modes but I can't figure which option deals with that Smiley Very Happy

y510 sound card fault?

When I am on High performance - I have very bad sound
on Balanced - bad

and on Power saver - no problems.

Can someone tell me which settings should I change so that I can use my computer to the maximum and have a good sound?

Re: y510 sound card fault?

hi skull4e,

Can you check under Power Options,

click the change plan settings under High performance

              then click change advanced settings

You will be presented with settings windows (Make sure it is on High performance)

            Open  processor Power Management

and change the system Cooling Policy and changed it to PASSIVE

Hit Apply and go change your power settings to high performance and see if that makes a difference

this will let your motherboard control the Cooling system.

Let me know your findings

Best Regards

Re: y510 sound card fault?

Hi Solid_Cruver,

I tried what you told me but it didn't work.

When I changed the minimum and maximum processor state it worked. At about 20% the sound was clear and at 50% started to sound bad. In High Performance the minimum processor state is 100% and thats why the sound is awful.

Re: y510 sound card fault?

hi

If that's the case then I would suggest to check the fans.

I think the fans adjusts to your Processor state,

That may be the one causing the sound,

If the sound doesn't really sound normal to you, with your experience.

You can contact Tech support team about this issue

Or you may want to take a look at your system's Maintenance Manual on how to access the fans.

Note: Just be extra careful if you want to check it on your own, any damage on the process will not covered by standard warranty.

Thanks and Regards

Re: Y510p problem with sound

Hello everyone,

So after getting my brand spanking new Lenovo y510p with JBL speakers, I was happy, sounded great. After about a week I freaked out the speakers stopped working. I searched up and down, checking drivers, performing a system restore, doing everything I could think of. Then as frustration mounted I closed the screen, WAIT FOR IT!!!, THE SPEAKERS WORKED FINE WITH THE SCREEN DOWN. Now I am running a set of Bose speakers out the head phone jack, but I have no audio if I want to travel with out them. So LENOVO if you could be so kind as to tell me why this is, I would appreciate it. Sounds to me like a wire is being pinched inside. Pinched when open not when closed.

Nothing a driver or a system restore can do about that..

 Craftsmanship???

On a side note I spent $1100 for this computer with the intention of upgrading the ULTRA-BAY, yet there are no accessories available. Just saying.

Thank you all have a wonderful day.

Re: Y510p problem with sound

I have buy same notebook at 04.12.2013  and encountered same audio problem. After research issue,i realised that, when  make   maximum performance mode from power options ,it problem occurs.Despite making windows installation from scratch, problem doesnt resolved. Then  i realised that if machine is run in balance mode, there is no audio problem anymore and i sent back to Lenovo BDH Turkey for changing machine,Service engineer approved changing because of motherboard outage.
