My machine was working fine no problem with power on. I didn't use it for about a week and now it will not turn on. I have led lights in front & power button is illuminated. No keyboard backlight, no hard drive sounds & screen is black. I cannot get the power button to turn off until I take out battery. I have discharged the flea power multiple times. The same thing happens when only connected via the ac adapter & battery alone.
When I first tried to turn on the led light in front was amber so I assumed my battery was dead. I have held down the power button for over 30 seconds multiple times. I am at my wits end. I have files I need to retreive from the machine.

The hardware manual does offer power checkout (page 21-22) guide that you can review.
As you already tried power draining the machine and running with ac/battery independently and still the same issue, I would suggest having it checked in your local service center like best buy for possible systemboard issue especially if the charger is functionally ok.
If your current priority is the data within the harddrive, removing it and slaving it on a laptop external enclosure would allow you to back it up on a different computer.
Hoping that it is only a DC in port issue only but do update us how it goes.

My main concern right now is retrieving data off hard drive. I am going to try and slave harddrive on another laptop. It's been awhile since I dismantled a machine but going to give a try

Good that you manage to get your files.
You can decide later to take the laptop with any local service center like Best Buy/ your IT department for verification of possible board issue if not other parts as do have tools/spare parts to isolate it.

Well I decided I have nothing to lose so I took apart the machine. I am somewhat tech savy but now I am a little out of my league. I disconnected everything & then reassembled machine. Same issue. When I push power button the led light turns on & the led lights in front are lit. Power going into button but that is it. How do I figure out if the power is going to the board? Power button led will stay illuminated until I pull the battery out. Could it be a faulty power switch? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

So the power indicator LED stay solid white without the battery and just the ac charger connected?
With the LED on but no fan movement and no display would most likely be a No POST issue (failed Power on self test) which either failure of any main component such as the CPU, motherboard, memory and graphic chip.
This would need advance systemboard troubleshooting and without a certified schematics, then it would be hard to further isolate other than obvious burnt capacitor. Best to have a service center check for probable systemboard failure etc since they have tools to do board checking.
