I have a Y520-15IKBM, which i love but it only came with a 256GB SSD. I want to get a 2TB or larger drive to replace the original drive.
What would be the best drive to get for a replacement, and how to i make a reinstall disc (or flashdrive) to reinstall the OS and Lenovo software afterwards?

You can add a SATA 2.5 7mm 2TB drive aside from the current m.2 SATA for added storage as a simpler option if you need more space. The hardware manual shows item 8 and item 11 page 66 storage drives for your model.
OEM offers up to 512GB for the m.2 PCIe stick if you really want to change it. Here is the article on how to create recovery drive or you can also get a Windows 10 ISO to clean install Windows on the drive. Then download the drivers and applications from the support site.
I hope this helps answer your query.

Ooh, thanks for the link to the hardware reference manual, that's handy & i hadn't tried to find that yet! Good call, i'll open it up to confirm that the only drive currently in my system is an M.2 chip. If that's the case, i don't imagine it should be any trouble just adding a 2.5" SSD drive alongside that, right?
Thank you, i'll update again after opening the case just to share the info.
